MrBeast, aka Jimmy Donaldson, represents all things good and bad about the present-day internet. While he’s gone viral on numerous occasions for his philanthropic efforts, he’s also one of the most YouTuber-brained people imaginable, finding a way to turn every kind of life experience into fodder for clicks.
For example, when Netflix released Squid Game, which depicted a dystopian TV show in which people competed for money with their lives, Donaldson thought, “Hey, this looks fun!” and spent $3.5 million to create his own version. He also does things like put expensive cars in shredders, drive trains into big holes and, uh, asks a man with a family to live alone in a circle for 100 days to win $500,000. In short, he runs the gamut from nice but weird to absolutely psychotic.
Falling into the latter category is a new challenge that Donaldson recently announced on Twitter.
I messed up.. I bought a random grocery store and told a random person I’d give him $10,000 everyday he lives in it and it’s been weeks and he shows no signs of ever leaving. I’m gonna go broke

According to Donaldson, he bought a supermarket and told a random person that he’d get $10,000 for every day they spent living inside. It has now been over a month.
It’s unclear why Donaldson thought this challenge would be difficult given just how many endurance challenges he’s done with random guests in far worse conditions. For example, one person was locked in a quasi prison cell for over 20 days before giving up. The aforementioned circle man made it to almost a third of a year. Turns out we can put up with a lot for content (and piles upon piles of cash).
The way he left this comment 2 YEARS AGO on food theory’s video about this exact topic https://t.co/qpgOgKN1cd pic.twitter.com/6RSKwW7uWe

you gave a guy access to seemingly unlimited food and water, access to bathrooms, and the intercom mic to keep him entertained

what did you THINK would happen?? https://t.co/EGgrCF7U6z
That said, Donaldson hasn’t made it easy for the person.
I blacked out the windows and locked it haha

Very menacing “haha” there, Jimbo.
Of course, while there were many on Twitter who supported Donaldson’s efforts, others wondered whether it was really okay to play God for content.
this is dystopian https://t.co/jCzvYQbEHV pic.twitter.com/NHVybVQ7uU

Tell me this is a farce. Dystopian as hell otherwise. https://t.co/qkc3KLLUJ1
While this is just edging up on the line of harmless and harmful, there’s going to be someone who takes it too far. Will it be Donaldson? It’s uncertain — but the second “$10,000 every day you survive with a pack of hyenas” drops, it’ll become crystal clear.
