Russian Man Eaten By Shark in Egypt, Locals Pull It From Water and Kick Its Tail
A 23-year-old Russian man named Vladimir Popov was killed by a tiger shark near an Egyptian Hurghada resort. With onlookers screaming for help from the beach, rescuers were unable to save Popov before he was dragged under. Authorities captured the shark "for examination," and locals beat the crap out of it while it was marooned on the beach.
According to The Daily Beast, Popov had been living in Egypt for several months and was at the beach with both his father and his girlfriend.
“It happened in a second," a bystander told Russian news. "I immediately jumped up and started shouting: ‘Sharks, sharks! Save yourself!’"
The tiger shark is responsible for the second most human attacks behind the great white, but according to National Geographic, is more likely to return to finish the job. Allegedly, sharks in the Red Sea are particularly aggressive.
It is unfair to blame a shark for acting on its predatory instincts, but this incident serves as a tragic reminder to stay on high alert whenever you're in open water.
