Snake Cut Into Three Pieces Keeps Slithering On the Grill

This tweet shows why snakes are not as commonly eaten as you might expect, given that they are long strings of pure muscle and protein. The reason is, that they still slither long after being killed and chopped up, like the spooky reptiles they are.

This action is called posthumous movement, and is caused by involuntary contractions of muscles that still have functioning cells and residual electrical activity in the nerves. While the snake is most certainly dead, motions like these go to show how much microscopic life is involved in making macroorganisms like us.

But no matter how well science can explain these movements to me, I think I'll keep my distance, and keep snake out of my mouth.

This video of skinned snaked on a cutting board is even more creepy and extreme.
